我们在英语学习中常常遇到熟悉的词汇，但是意思却不甚了解，这在托福、雅思考试和各种其它考试中非常频繁的出现，对此“烤鸭”们需要非常重视，这样才有利于对英语知识的掌握和理解。现在环球教育谢文斌老师举例如下：

　　1.The news spread abroad that he would pursue overseas education

　　译文：消息广泛传开说他要出国留学。

　　注解：abroad  adv(谣言、消息等)在传播中(的)，在四下流传中(的)

　　2.We advanced the firm 6,000 Yuan RMB against future rents.

　　译文：我们预支给那个公司6000元人民币房租。

　　注解：advance  (V/N)预付(款)，预支，

　　再如：The employees intensely called for an advance of their salary.

　　译文：员工们强烈要求预付薪金。

　　3.The opening-up policy formulated by the eminent leader Deng Xiaoping is one of the primary agents for the economic take-off.

　　译文：杰出的领袖邓小平提出的改革开放政策是推动经济腾飞的主要动因之一。

　　注解：agent(起作用或影响的)动因，能因，原动力，作用力，使然力(指引起一定作用的人或其他因素)

　　4.The Purchasing Department offered us a breakdown of the commodities they desired to place an order for.

　　译文：公司采购部提供给我们一份他们想要订购商品的细目列表。

　　注解：英文解释A breakdown of something is a list of its separate parts. 细目列表

　　再如：用在剑桥雅思4小作文中的表格题

　　The table gives a breakdown of the different types of family who were living in poverty in Australia in 1999.译文：该表提供了1999年澳大利亚不同类型家庭贫困人口的分析.

　　5.The steep mountain acted as a check on the enemy's advance.

　　译文：陡峭的山阻挡住了敌人的推进。

　　注解：check(n)抑制；阻止；抑制物

　　6.To enter Class B airspace, such as on approach to a major metropolitan airport, an explicit ATC（air traffic control) clearance is required. （选自于剑桥八阅读test 1）

　　译文：如要进入B级空域，比如飞临主要城市机场,则必须有明确的航空交通管制许可。

　　注解：飞机许可(飞机在起降、通过上空时必须得到飞行管理人员的许可)（亦作ATC clearance）

　　再如：The pilot was given clearance to land after he signaled to the Airport Control Tower.

　　译文：飞行员在他向机场塔台发出信号后，得到可以降落的许可。
